Sarah is a graduate of the University of Iowa Roy J. and Lucille A. Carver College of Medicine where as a junior was elected to the AOA Honor Society. Born in Cresco, Iowa, Sarah’s family has a farm in the northeast part of that state. Sarah is a former EMT, speaks fluent French, spent time in Belgium as a foreign exchange student and has an orange belt in Hapkido |

Audrey is a graduate of
the University of Vermont College of Medicine where she was a member of
the AOA Honor Society. While there she was the recipient of a fellowship
for her work with Congolese immigrants and refugees and also received a
research grant for her work in HIV/AIDS research in Ethiopia Audrey’s
undergraduate field of study was ‘Cultural Expression through Art’. She
also speaks fluent Spanish. |

Fiona is a graduate of the Oregon Health Sciences University School of Medicine where she was a member of the AOA Honor Society. Fiona, who is originally from St. Paul, is a blogger whose “Adventures in Medical School” was featured in Portland’s weekly newspaper, the Willamette Week. Fiona majored in Hispanic Studies as an undergraduate, studied abroad in Chile and the Dominican Republic and is fluent in Spanish. |

Sam is a graduate of the University of
Minnesota School of Medicine. Sam, who has traveled extensively
throughout South America, North America, Europe and Africa, did five
months of research at the Infectious Disease Institute and Mulango
Hospital in Kampala, Uganda. He also was in the Peace Corps in Ecuador
and taught high school chemistry and biology in inner city Boston. Sam
has competed in four marathons including qualifying for and completing
two Boston Marathons. |

Lisa graduated from
Creghton University School of Medicine. She has experience as an
Emergency Room Technician and Research Assistant at Regions Hospital in
St. Paul as well as an EMT for the American Red Cross. Lisa’s volunteer
experience includes the Magis Clinic which is a free clinic for the
homeless and the Siena Francis House which is a shelter for homeless
people in Omaha. Lisa’s undergraduate degree from the College of St.
Benedict in St. Joseph, Minnesota is in Nutrition Science. |

Valerie graduated from
the University of Minnesota School of Medicine. Born in St. Louis Park,
Valerie’s undergraduate degree is in Theology from the University of St.
Thomas. As a Research Associate at both the University of Minnesota and
at HCMC, she worked on a number of research projects within those
Emergency Departments. Valerie is a competitive soccer player and plays
with the MN Women’s Amateur League. |

Johanna is a graduate of the University of Minnesota School of Medicine where she was a member of the AOA Honor Society. Johanna has extensive experience as a Research Assistant both at HCMC and at Regions Hospital in St. Paul. In 2005-2006 Johanna was the recipient of the EMF/SAEM Medical Student Research Grant – one of five medical students selected nationally. Johanna is also a nine-time Varsity Macalester College Swimming Record Holder.

Chad is a graduate of
Georgetown University School of Medicine. Born in Denver, Colorado, Chad
has experience as a Research Fellow, an EMT, a volunteer firefighter/firemedic
and a bungee tower jumpmaster. In 2003 Chad bicycled 4500 miles over 71
days from Florence, OR to Washington, DC to raise funds and awareness on
behalf of people with physical and developmental disabilities. |

Eric graduated from the
University of Vermont College of Medicine in Burlington, Vermont. Eric
has extensive volunteer experience including as an EMT, Outdoor
Orientation Trip Leader and Technical Rescue Specialist. His technical
rescue activities include ice, swift water, and dive rescues as well as
rope and mountain rescues. Eric is also involved with research. He is
currently working to examine the characteristics of patients who rate
pain at 10/10 in the ED. |

Emily is a graduate of
the University of Missouri-Columbia School of Medicine where she was a
member of the AOA Honor Society. Emily served as President of her
medical school class since 2004 and in that role has been involved in a
number of activities. Emily’s undergraduate degree is in sociology from
Boston University where she was the top student graduating in 2003. She
was the student speaker at the graduation ceremony and spoke about
sociology and public health and their implications on the future of
medicine as a profession. |

Heidi is a graduate of the University of Minnesota School of Medicine where she was a member of the AOA Honor Society. She has extensive experience in student government, volunteer activities and research including working with Dr. Jim Miner on HCMC research activities. At the Phillips Neighborhood Clinic in Minneapolis, Heidi was a clinician, clinic coordinator and publications coordinator which included responsibility for the clinic’s publications and web site. In the past, Heidi has also taught English as a second language and was a certified nursing assistant.
