Rebecca is a “local” who attends the University of Minnesota School of Medicine and was an honors, Magna Cum Laude performer at Carlton College. She was a computer software trainer for two years before entering medical school. She has also taught anatomy at the U of M. She has participated in many volunteer activities in the Twin Cities, and has been a rape crisis counselor. Rebecca has held many leadership positions at the medical school. She is a “ultimate frisbee freak” and has been a actor/director/technician in 32 theater productions. She loves to read, camp and play with her two great dogs. |

Andrew Bachman is a native of Minneapolis who was a Magna Cum Laude graduate at Amherst and is an AOA graduate of Georgetown University School of Medicine. He did research while an undergrad at Medtronic and in medical school has done EM research on hockey puck injuries and incidents on commercial airliners. His interests include soccer, running, golf, travel and anything outdoors. It’s no surprise that he’s an Eagle Scout! He loves art, music and has done a lot of volunteer work |

Laura Bultman is an AOA graduate of the University of Missouri-Columbia School of Medicine. She received her undergraduate education at Washington University in St. Louis. Laura is president and founder of her medical school’s EM Interest Group and has participated in many volunteer activities. She lists her personal interests as fitness training including yoga and cardiokickboxing, traveling, reading, and music. |

William (Marty) Bruggemann was born in Minnesota, but now hails from Milwaukee where he attends the Medical College of Wisconsin. He attended Western Washington University as an undergraduate and over the years has had quite a career in food service. He has held many leadership positions in school and has participated in many volunteer organizations. Marty has done research on the use of Heliox in severe croup which resulted in recent publication of the article. He’s very interested in outdoor sports, hockey, dancing and listening to music. |

Carly Evans is a
native of Kansas City who attends the University of Kansas School of
Medicine, where she has excelled. Carly
is the president of the local AOA chapter and has many medical school
honors. Her undergraduate
degree is from Baylor where she graduated Summa Cum Laude and was a Phi
Beta Kappa. In addition,
she has many other undergraduate honors and has participated in many
volunteer positions. Carly
has completed one marathon and various half-marathons, loves to do
triathalons and enjoys many other outdoor sports. Her research interest
in medical school was sports medicine.

Eric Kraska, from the University of Colorado School of Medicine, has had an interesting route to Emergency Medicine. He has managed a ski shop in Telluride, been a US Park Service resource manager in Alaska and has been involved in search and rescue. This all blended to make him realize that Emergency Medicine was his career goal. He has participated in research during medical school and lists diverse interests including running, cycling, kayaking, skiing, and home remodeling |

Seth Lashkowitz has upper Midwest ties though he
attended Cornell as an undergraduate and attended Dartmouth.
He was actually born in Fargo, but has friends and family in the
Twin Cities. He also lived
in Colorado. Seth has been
a ski technician, health attendant and after Cornell became an economist
for three years with the USDA. He
has been involved in many volunteer activities.
His interests include skiing, hiking, reading, travel and he has
taken his jogging passion to the extreme in running the Twin Cities
Marathon.

Katherine Leuck is from the University of Iowa College of Medicine and attended Bucknell and Oberlin College where she received many honors as an undergraduate. She has been involved in many volunteer projects and has done recombinant DNA related research. Katherine has a passion and great talent playing the viola and has performed in many solo, quartet and chamber ensemble venues. She loves outdoor activities such as walking, hiking and fishing and is a bird enthusiast. She loves to respond to editorials in her local paper. |

Madeleine Meyer was born in New York City, but essentially grew up in Colorado and graduated from high school in Boulder. She attends the University of Colorado School of Medicine and is an honors graduate from Wellesley. She has been an EMT, camp counselor and researcher during her years of undergraduate study. Madeleine has also done research in molecular biology and has volunteered in many teaching and clinic organizations. She describes herself as a “SCUBA nut” having a rescue diver certification, and she is passionate for the outdoors and her pets. |

Kristin Sufka is an AOA graduate of the University of Minnesota. She was born in St. Cloud and attended the University of Minnesota-Duluth as an undergrad. She returns to Hennepin to complete her emergency medicine residency which was interrupted by military service. She is an Air Force Flight Surgeon and previously had finished two years of a surgery residency before changing to EM. Kris did surgery related research while at the University of Minnesota and volunteered in local clinics. She loves all types of outdoor activities, is a passionate reader, and lists travel as one of her great interests. |

Chad Torstenson is
from the University of Iowa College of Medicine and has become somewhat
of a legend at HCMC already. His
flight before his interview here was cancelled because of a blizzard,
but in the character of an ED doc,
Chad got in his car and drove all night to make it!
His undergraduate studies were also at Iowa and he supported
himself as a paramedic during those years.
He’s also done many years of volunteer fire and rescue work,
which makes his choice of emergency medicine ideal.
His interests include prehospital emergencies, airway management
and trauma care. He loves
to hunt, fish, read and travel. |
